Bookkeeping
PROGRAM OUTLINE
Your at-home learning program includes six Instruction Sets designed
to take you step-by-step through the techniques and skills you’ll
employ in your new career in Bookkeeping. Your first Instruction
Set will be sent to you as soon as your enrolment has been
accepted. Other Instruction Sets will follow as you complete
your exams, so that you will always have training materials
to work with.
In order to complete this program, you'll need to have access to an IBM®-compatible PC, Internet access, and current version of Microsoft® Office software.
Here is an overview of what you'll learn and the order in which you'll receive your learning materials:

and the accounting equation; preparing a balance sheet.

- The basics of the general journal; the
basics of the ledger, including the T account, the
chart of accounts, and opening a ledger account.

- Assets, Liabilities, and Owner’s Equity
- Account balances for
asset accounts, liability accounts, and owner’s equity
accounts; footing and balancing the ledger; analyzing a

- Another look at owner’s
equity; permanent and temporary accounts; normal balances.
- Financial
Reports
- Worksheets; how to prepare an income statement and
a balance sheet; closing steps for expense and revenue
summary accounts; balancing and ruling the books
at the end of the year; temporary ledger accounts; permanent
ledger accounts; the general ledger; the accounting cycle.

- How to account for cash and

ledger and other business records.

- Accounting procedures for wholesale sales, discounts,

payable ledger; promissory notes and interest-bearing notes.

Instruction
Set 6
- Bookkeeping Project
- Maintain the accounting
records and prepare financial statements
for this sole proprietorship. Includes
ledgers, business papers and checks,
journals, and the narrative of transactions.
Project must be completed manually.

Online Library and Librarian
Students in ICS Canada have access to an online library for use during their studies. Students can use this library to do the required research in the courses they complete or can use it for general reference and links to valuable resources. The library contains helpful research assistance, articles, databases, books, and Web links. A librarian is available to answer questions on general research-related topics via email and to assist students in research activities during their studies with ICS Canada.
