PROGRAM OUTLINE

Your at-home learning program includes 10 Instruction Sets designed to take you step-by-step through the marketing techniques and skills you’ll need. Your first Instruction Set will be sent to you as soon as your enrolment has been accepted. Other Instruction Sets will follow as you complete your exams, so that you will always have training materials to work with.

You will need access to a Microsoft® Windows®-based computer (running Windows Vista® or later) and the Internet in order to complete your program with ICS Canada.

Here is an overview of what you’ll learn and the order in which you’ll receive your learning materials:

Instruction Set 1

  • Learning Strategies
    The advantages of learning at home; study materials; types of examinations; accessing and using our website; determining what kind of learner you are; establishing a study schedule; study tips; preparing for and taking an examination.
  • Time and Stress Management
    Identifying and implementing a successful study method; planning when, where, and how you'll study; creating effective and efficient study tools; using study tools to improve chances for success.

Instruction Set 2

  • Principles of Marketing
    The marketing environment; planning, information, and segmentation; consumer and business buyer behaviour; product and distribution strategy; promotion and pricing strategy.

Instruction Set 3

  • Information Literacy
    Teaches students to become effective in finding and utilizing information at libraries and other information centers, and through electronic resources available in libraries and on the World Wide Web.

Instruction Set 4

  • Math for Business and Finance
    Percentages; discounts; interest; present worth; sinking funds; installment buying; pricing; depreciation; investments; insurance; use of symbols and their applications, equations and formulas; importance of statistics.

Instruction Set 5

  • Interpersonal Communication 1
    Voice and diction; listening; speaking; eye contact; body language.
  • Graded Project

Instruction Set 6

  • Business and Technical Writing
    Writing styles; ABC method of organizing material; grammar (parts of speech, active and passive voice, complete sentences vs. sentence fragments; parallel construction); using action verbs; constructing paragraphs; writing memos, business letters, and emails; organizing material; conducting research; documenting sources; outlining; providing illustrations; writing reports, proposals, descriptions, instructions, articles, and manuals.

Instruction Set 7

  • Advertising Principles
    Techniques of advertising; function of advertising in the marketing area; role of advertising in the marketplace.

Instruction Set 8

  • Marketing Research
    Nature and scope of marketing research; sampling and sampling methods; primary and secondary data sources; questionnaire scales; data analysis; development of summary statistics.

Instruction Set 9

  • Consumer Behaviour
    Influencing consumer behaviour; consumer decision-making; effects on research and marketing; environmental influences; ethical responsibility.

Instruction Set 10

  • Introduction of Business Statistics
    Presentation of data; frequency distribution; averages; dispersion and skewness; index numbers; time series analysis; correlation and forecasting; the theory of probability and statistical inference.

Online Library and Librarian
Students of ICS Canada have access to an online library for use during their studies. Students can use this library to do the required research in the courses they complete or can use it for general reference and links to valuable resources. The library contains helpful research assistance, articles, databases, books, and Web links. A librarian is available to answer questions on general research-related topics via email and to assist students in research activities during their studies with ICS Canada.
