Distance Education: A Canadian Tradition | ||
|
The need to make education accessible across the vast expanses of the country has made distance education an established tradition in Canada. After years of development with the use of radio, television, teleconferencing, and computers, Canada has become a world leader in distance education. It was in 1920 that International Correspondence Schools established its Canadian operations in Montreal. With a handful of full-time help and several sales representatives on the road all across Canada, International Canadian Schools, Canadian Ltd. began marketing its courses to those who wished to continue their education by correspondence. From its beginning, ICS Canada demonstrated flexibility in adapting to changing consumer and corporate educational needs, innovating, upgrading, and updating courses on an ongoing basis. Today, ICS Canada Enrollment Advisors have replaced door-to-door sales representatives, and high-tech computer courses have been added to the diverse list of course offerings. Still, the school remains true to the original vision of Thomas J. Foster to provide education to students who prefer to learn at home at their own pace, as ICS Canada continues to grow with the technological advances of the 21st century.
