STEPS to an E-friendly Resume

According to Eric Presley, CTO for CareerBuilder.com, the Internet has changed the way we apply for jobs. Given the increasing number of online job boards, an electronic resume may be necessary to apply for jobs. Electronic resumes use plain text or HTML documents for job applications online. When you submit your application materials via email or online, your resume may be entered into an automated tracking system which scans all resumes, keeping those with keywords similar to the company's job descriptions and discarding the rest. Presley recommends these five easy steps to format your existing resume into an e-friendly one.

   1. Remove all formatting from your original resume.
   2. Use Notepad, WorkPad, or SimpleText to reformat.
   3. Stick to a simple 12 pt. font and style, remove bullets.
   4. Apply keywords and place the important ones first,
       avoid abbreviations.
   5. Test it. Email your resume to friends who use
       various Internet service providers.

Did YOU KNOW…

Canadian students may be able to claim a tuition tax credit which is non-refundable. The purpose of the tuition tax credit is to allow students to reduce their income taxes by taking into account tuition fees for certain types of education. Tuition fees for most programs offered through ICS Canada are a fully deductible tax credit. Contact Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) for further information on the tuition tax credit. Visit the CCRA website at www.ccra.gc.ca.
