At ICS Canada, we commend everyone who makes the choice to further their education. However, Child Psychology graduate and current Adult Psychology student Angela R. has truly proven herself as remarkable, whether it is through her academic achievements or success with her non-profit, Toronto-based organization LoveCry. Angela plans to use her education not only as a healing experience for her own difficult life but to help children and adults who have been abused and live homeless.
Angela spent much of her early life as a street person, abused and emotionally ill. She experienced years of inconclusive medical testing and diagnoses of her illness. With very little education but a desire to help herself, Angela earned money during these difficult times by singing in a rock band. It was then that she heard calls for help from other street kids who were victims of abuse. In 1987, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After overcoming an illness that has taken many lives, Angela was determined to help homeless children who were victims of abuse. She obtained her high school diploma, and went on to study metaphysics and spiritual therapy, receiving her certification in A Course in Miracles® (A self-study spiritual thought system) in Toronto. Ten years later, Angela is still the Director of LoveCry, The Street Kids Org. and shows no signs of slowing down.
“Every street kid that came to me at LoveCry for help is now off the streets and living a much better life. Some of them have gone on with what I taught them into better lives that they had ever expected. Now with your help you have given me at ICS, I will be able to do even more.”
Angela first heard of ICS Canada through a friend and saw the Child Psychology program as an educational gateway that would allow her to reach out to the citizens of Toronto and make them aware of the problems plaguing Toronto’s homeless population. Angela completed the ICS Canada Child Psychology Program in June, and is currently enrolled in our Adult Psychology Program. She hopes to use her experience and education so people can see the path she has traveled. According to Angela, “Every street kid that came to me for help at LoveCry is now off the streets and living a much better life. Some of them have gone on with what I taught them to lead better lives than they had ever expected. Now, with the help of ICS Canada, I will be able to do even more.”
